Eklipse 2013 Auditions
When?
Both Eklipse A and World will hold auditions on Sunday, September 23rd from 10 AM-6 PM.
Where?
Auditions will be held at Antioch High School,
How Much?
There is a $40 (non-refundable) audition fee, which will apply to your 2013 membership fees if you are selected for the guard.
What Will We Do?
There will be a dance class, followed by sessions on flag, rifle and sabre (rifle and sabre are optional). You will learn a few warm-up exercises and then a combination to see how you learn and approach new challenges. Just wear clothes suitable for dancing (black is best, but we won't throw you out if you don't have all black), and bring weapons if you'd like to audition for a weapon spot (flags will be provided, but our supply of weapons is limited). Of course, you should avoid anything baggy, and long hair should be secured away from your face - we want to see you perform!
What Do I Need To Work On?
You don't need to arrive at auditions knowing a specific set of exercises - so don't worry if you don't know exactly what we do! For flag, you should know basic spins (drop spins and double-time on both sides) and be comfortable throwing a variety of tosses. For weapons, you should be familiar with spins, flourishes, etc. and have good basic toss technique. For the A guard, weapons should be comfortable throwing quads and fives. For the World guard, sixes and sevens (sabres - at least a blade five will be expected for World guard performers, as well. We are pretty dance heavy, so you should be ready to move a LOT! Review basic center floor exercises, familiarize yourself with several types of leaps, and stretch.
I'm Scared I Won't Make It. Should I Come?
Absolutely! You'll never know if you don't try. Obviously, our World guard will be pretty selective, but we have a policy not to turn people away if they have a little experience and want to learn. If you have a good attitude and are willing to sweat and put in the time and effort, our staff can teach you. You may not be in the World guard your first year, but our A guard was a semi-finalist their very first season, and we expect them to get even better this year!
What Are Your Age Requirements?
For the A guard, you must be no older than 22 on the day of WGI finals (April 12, 2013). We don't have a minimum age for the A guard, but if you are in high school and your school has a competitive winter guard, we encourage you to perform with them. We just don't feel right about taking talented performers from their school programs. For the World Guard, you must be out of high school (and at least 18), but there is no maximum age.
What Is Your Schedule Like?
We meet every Sunday from auditions until Thanksgiving (this makes it easier to work around marching band season). After Thanksgiving, the A guard will meet Friday nights and all day Saturday for the rest of the season. The World guard will rehearse Saturdays and Sundays after Thanksgiving. There will be a couple of full-weekend camps for each group (Friday-Sunday), generally in December and/or January. We'll have more specific details once auditions are done.
We're getting bigger and better every year, and 2013 looks to continue that trend! We're looking forward to another great turn out this season!
